Meet & Greet with local author Robert Haig

Author: Robert Haig

About Robert:

He was born and raised in southwest Detroit. His home was in the neighborhood known as Delray; Tucked in between the Zug Island steel mills and the sewage treatment. His Father was a Detroit Firefighter and his Mother manned the home. After graduating high school and a year of college he settled in at a local machine shop. Several years later, he realized this was not the plan for his future. At the age of twenty five he joined the Detroit Police Department. In what seemed like the blink of an eye, twenty seven years later he walked away from a career he truly loved.

Ten Little Police Chiefs by Robert Haig

Summary:

Follow Sergeant Robert Haig, veteran of the Detroit Police Department, on his law enforcement journey. Starting with the civil service test, ride along for almost three decades of patrol in the city that was once labeled as the "Murder Capitol of the World". Experience not only the raw street stories, but also the department and city politics that contributed to the deterioration of a once proud law enforcement team.

From Robert:

"After compiling about ten pages, I realized my career was not about the bad things that happened. It was about the men and woman of the Detroit Police Department. It was about that small percentage of officers doing the job and doing it right. It was about my heroes and my heartbreaks. Ten Little Police Chiefs is my story."

Meet & Greet with Local Science Fiction author Kathy Nowak

Author: Kathy Nowak

About Kathy:

Kathy has dreamed of writing captivating stores since she was a young child. She's a Liberal arts grad of the 70's and as she puts it, the earlier “Would you like fries with that?” generation. Her college studies included a foreign language major with a science-heavy pre-med schedule. She threw in a year’s worth of psychology and a fencing class taught by a world-renowned coach. A decade later she was accepted to take theology and ministry classes at a seminary. Kathy has earned her living as a typesetter/keyliner, a chemist’s assistant, and in sales: pitching real estate and encyclopedias. Later, a fluke led her to temp work in the legal field which led to 20 plus years at a premier law firm!

On the flip side, she rode a motorcycle for a decade and is an internationally-renowned hockey puck artist; A medium few dabble in (at least no one else she’s heard of). She sums up her life with the old adage: Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.
